Dear Strawberry Park Neighbors

Are you looking for a way to beautify nearby neighborhoods in District 1?

You are invited to join Beautiful Day and make a mark in District 1, in the Boynton/Blackford neighborhood on April 28th. We are in search of neighbors who are up to doing some yard work, trimming some trees and removing brush.  Larger-scale projects, like managing dumpsters and walking the streets to cover graffiti, will be available, too.  If you've got a pair of helping hands, we could use you!

Beautiful Day is a collaborative effort between city government, community groups, and local businesses to invest in the South Bay through impressive and innovative volunteer opportunities. It’s Easy to Join Us! Sign up using our online registration form at www.beaufiulday.org. Show up on April 28th from 8am-12pm and be a part of making a Beautiful Day for your neighbors!

With sincere gratitude for your consideration,

Jennifer Guess

Dear Neighbors

Eric Wong, with Environmental Services Department at the City of San Jose. is the City’s representative on the Earth Day event in 2012.

He is very excited to announce to you about the Earth Day event this year. The event will be held on Thursday, April 19th, 2012, at SJSU along the Paseo De San Carlos (San Carlos Plaza). This is a joint event hosted by The City of San Jose, the SJSU Environmental Resources Center, and SJSU Associated Students. Our main goals for this event are to create an opportunity for our community to come together, engage our next generation in environmental education, and encourage actions for a healthy planet.

The event will be divided into three segments: Main Earth Day event from 11am-3pm; Intermission from 3pm-6:30pm; and Showcase Finale from 6:30pm-8:30pm. The first segment will be the main Earth Day event involving informational booths with activities, roughly 80 vendors from community organizations, food trucks, student workshops, school tours, etc. The middle segment will be a rest period with music and bicycle activities. The evening segment will be geared primarily towards SJSU students, with a “Trashion Fashion Show”, student performances, organic cooking demos, etc.

It is going to be a wonderful event for the community to learn about sustainable living and engage in environmental awareness. We kindly ask you to help spread the word around your neighborhood.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call or email me so I can provide you with additional information. I can be reached at (408) 535-8560.

 Best Regards,

 Eric Wong

Reporting Crime in San Jose

If you've been the victim of a crime it's really important to report it. We know that sometimes it’s not easy to decide to come forward. But we also know that if no one reports a crime, it’s as if it never happened.
If no one reports a crime, the criminal is free to commit more crime, damaging more communities and individuals.
It’s also important to report crime for your own practical purposes, like getting a Police Report number so that you can make an insurance claim.

Reporting a crime anonymously

By reporting a crime anonymously Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers is a completely
independent organization which allows you to provide the details of a crime,
without revealing your identity.

You will not be compelled to give your name, sign any kind of statement or appear in court– all you have to do is provide the information about the crime.
For more information visit the Crime Stoppers website: http://svcrimestoppers.org/
TO MAKE AN ANONYMOUS TIP CALL CRIME STOPPERS AT

- no one will know who you are - and you may receive up to $1000 in reward money.

    Report Graffiti

    Reporting Graffiti

Let’s get rid of the graffiti!

The City of San Jose is on a mission to wipe out graffiti on homes
and businesses. It is asking residents to help out.
Call 311 to report graffiti on your home or in your neighborhood.
(Cellular callers must dial (408) 277-8900). Call 911 to report
    vandalism in progress.

If you want to report information about taggers anonymously,
please call Crime Stoppers at (408) 947-7867

Even if you plan to clean up the graffiti yourself, make a
report first. The best way to report graffiti is to call 311 or 911
if it is a crime in progress. If you are unable to make a police report,
the next best thing is to send photos to the Metro Graffiti Unit officers
using our Graffiti Photo Evidence Upload Form. If you don't have
photos to submit and you just want to contact the Graffiti Unit,
you can click here to use our online contact form.

We need to know who (full name, address and phone number) took the photos, when they were taken and the address of where the graffiti is located. Please be advised that you may be called to testify in court to "authenticate" the photos, although this is rare. Graffiti is a crime investigated by the SJPD Metro Graffiti Unit, consisting of two full time officers who investigate graffiti crimes in San Jose.

The officers’ primary responsibilities include the identification and
arrest of graffiti vandals with a goal of a successful
criminal prosecution. The Metro Graffiti Team focuses on tagging
crews and gang graffiti trends. Graffiti Officers also assist patrol with
their investigations. Metro Graffiti Officers conduct presentations at
community meetings, local schools and teach TAG classes to juvenile
offenders and their parents as part of a rehabilitation program.
